Indian Co-operative movement owes its  origin to the passing of Indian Co-operative Societies Act 1904. The act had under gone many amendments over the years with the basic intention to provide and support the unorganized rural and urban segment of population of Indian economy through thrift ,self help and mutual aid.

The enactment  of State Cooperative Societies  Act ,1925 by the Government of Bombay was the first  great leap  towards  spreading   the movement throughout  the length and breadth of the pre independent India . The message of development through united co operation among the population of the then India , the co operative movement started to stronger its root  to become a very important face of development of the country.

With  these backdrops some eminent patriot & social reformer personalities of Bally-Belur locality became torch bearer of the movement  in  Bally – Belur area .  

They felt to establish a financial institution in the Pre- Independence time to satisfy the credit need of the poor people which would ultimately help to strengthen financial condition of the poor & needy people of the area  & protect them from the clutches of money lenders .Towards this direction, those wise personalities  pioneered  to make an concerted  effort  to call an informal meeting at Bally Public Library at 4 pm. , Sunday the 2nd August 1925. Ultimately, the outcome of this meeting was establishing   Bally Co-operative Credit Society Ltd.  The Society was registered under the Co-operative society Act  11 of 1925, having registration no.8.

 From that time onwards , the Board of the Directors  of the Society together with the members of Staff, Share Holders , local people over the years have contributed  to smoothening  and strengthening  the path of growth of the  institution.  As a consequence ,  Bally Co-operative Credit Society Ltd.  and it became Bally Co-operative Bank Ltd. by obtaining  License from Reserve Bank of India for the banking business on 12/03/2002. Since then the Bank became  very useful arm for rendering banking services to the people of Bally –Belur area.

During the recent time, the Government of West Bengal under  the  stewardship of   Smt.Mamata Banerjee   C.M and guidance of Sri Arup Roy Minister- In – Charge of Cooperation and also the supervision and guidance of  the Reserve Bank of India,  the Bank is moving towards modern banking and on its way to celebtrate the Bank’s Centenary in the year 2025.

Many learned & wise personalities of Bally-Belur locality judiciously felt to establish a financial institution in the Pre- Independence time to satisfy the credit need of the poor people which would ultimately help to strengthen financial condition of the poor & needy people & protect them from the clutches of moneylenders .Those wise personalities come together and decided to call an informal meeting at Bally Public Library at 4 pm. , Sunday the 2nd August 1925. Ultimately Bally Co-operative Credit Society Ltd. had been registered under the Co-operative society Act 11 of 1925, having registration no.8. Afterwards Bally Cooperative Bank Ltd. got License from Reserve Bank of India for the banking business on 12/03/2002.

Honorable Chief Minister of Government of West Bengal Smt.Mamata Banerjee helped enormously for the development of the bank and Minister- In – Charge of Cooperation Sri Arup Roy played a vital role for the same purpose.
